"I just couldn't believe my luck when I received the email telling me I had won a trip to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as a guest of Etihad. Pearl Class flights, four nights at the luxurious Park Hyatt Hotel, VIP pit lane passes and Paddock Club hospitality at the race itself for me and a guest!

I have been an enthusiastic follower of motor racing since the Jim Clark days of my childhood and have attended many races, including my first - the 1978 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch. It would be my friend Keith Edwards who I attended that race with, which I would take on this trip of a lifetime to Abu Dhabi some thirty-four years later.

The champagne flowed from the minute we got to our seats on the plane and, after some lovely food and a short nap; we were in Abu Dhabi in what felt like no time. Our chauffeur soon had us at the magnificent Park Hyatt Hotel, with its grand entrance hall and spacious rooms. After a good night's sleep and a tasty breakfast we went early to the track and watched the teams doing pit lane practice before the cars came out for the first official practice session.

I haven't actually made it to a Grand Prix since Silverstone 1992, when Nigel Mansell and Riccardo Patrese scored a Williams-Renault one-two. To see and hear the latest generation of Formula One cars in full flight down the pit straight was an awesome sight and behind us the hospitality available at the Paddock Club was equally impressive. This is where Keith and I had every need catered for over the following three days, with excellent food and drink available throughout the day.

Our host Barry Green introduced himself and his Etihad team, and they were on hand throughout to ensure that we were looked after.

As a Lewis Hamilton supporter, seeing him take pole as day turned into evening on Saturday was a memorable event. Unfortunately, his luck in the race didn't hold and having led for 19 laps he succumbed to fuel pressure problems.

However, at lunch beforehand we had met Eddie Jordan and even watched the opening laps of the race with Dannii Minogue, both of whom were also guests of Etihad. An eventful and exciting race followed and we saw Kimi Raikkonen cross the finish line to win the first race of his comeback.

The hospitality continued and by the time we got back to the hotel to freshen up and pick up our belongings, it was time for the limousine to take us to the airport and our Pearl Business Class flight home.

It was all over too quickly. But it had been a fantastic weekend for two F1 fanatics.

Thank you Etihad."
